thank you, omami! i purchased my first dslr last fall and it's a nikon d60. the camera is lightweight and i love it. it feels good in my hands and is very intuitive to figure out.
some of the other nikons have too many bells and whistles for me - i just want to take nice photos vs. movies.
i would go to a store and try the different cameras in your hands. the differences in image quality between the canon and nikon are probably very small. after all, the talent is in the person. good luck!
